His work has been recognized with multiple awards, including “Excellence in Urbanism,” “Best Undergraduate Design Project,” and an exhibition at the AIA Center for Emerging Professionals in Washington, D.C. Additionally, his work was also selected as a finalist for the 2018 SketchUp Ascent Competition in Palm Springs, CA. His professional collaborative body of work has been published on Star Tribune, Dwell Magazine, Midwest Design Magazine, and Residential Design Magazine.
Roderick Varh is a designer with a passion for creating refined, thoughtful homes. Specializing in high-end residential architecture, he believes great design is the result of collaboration—blending diverse perspectives, technical expertise, and creativity to craft spaces that feel both timeless and personal.
Outside of work, he enjoys traveling with his wife and sons, drawing inspiration from new places, and spending time outdoors. You’ll often find him running or cycling along the trails at Elm Creek Reserve, embracing the balance between design and nature.
Prior to his architectural career, Roderick served in the United States Army, including a one-year deployment to Afghanistan, an experience that instilled in him a deep sense of discipline, resilience and appreciation for the meaning of home.
With a strong background in 3D modeling and architectural visualization, Roderick plays a key role in shaping the studio’s design communication and construction documentation. His expertise in building information modeling (BIM) ensures seamless integration of design and technology, bringing projects to life with precision and efficiency.
Before founding Simple Finesse, he gained experience at firms like Chris Pardo Design (Seattle/Palm Springs), SALA Architects, and PLAAD Architects (Minneapolis). He holds a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from the University of North Carolina and studied abroad in Spain and Portugal, experiences that continue to shape his approach to design.
